Where is Aspirin made?
Aspirin is made of salicylic acid. It was not until 70 years after the three-fold effect of aspirin was discovered that British pharmacologist John Vane unravelled the mechanism which produces the effect. In 1982, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for his research, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
Germany is credited for inventing aspirin however aspirin had already been made in France but had not been given the name aspirin and the French Chemist that made it did not market it. So 46 years later the idea was rediscovered in Germany and the Germans gave the compound the name aspirin and marketed it with the Bayer company.
I'd check with your vet first, aspirin can upset the stomach, not all antbiotics will agree with pets, if your vet gave you the amoxicillin did they mention to give aspirin also? Aspirin not recommended by your vet can be fatal to your dog. Never ever give aspirin made for human consumption to your dogs.
Aspirin can cause an irrated stomach. Ibuprofin (aceteminophen) and bufferin (buffered or coated aspirin) was made primarily to bypass the stomach and be digested in the intestines therefore not irritating the stomach. The heavy use of aspirin can cause ulceritis of the stomach wall and irritate existing ulcers. See the related link for more information.
