February 1978 from Van Halens debut album!
He had different features with each of his guitars throughout the phases of his career.Originial Frankenstrat (Black and white)- It featured one humbucking PAF pickup and a standard American Fender Vibrato or whammy system. He kept it in tune but rotating the strings counter-clockwise as he tuned it. It had one single volume control knob. Stock Fender Stratocaster neck, the body was a "Second" (body blank that was not routed and had imperfections) of a Charvel So-cal that he purchased for around 60$Ibanez "Shark"Destroyer- A home-made project of Eddie's that was only featured in their first album, Van Halen. This guitar lacked a whammy system and had two humbucking pickups. It was called the shark because he sawed off a chuck of the guitar's body at the rear and chiseled it to a "teeth" like pattern. The finish of this guitar was nerly identical to the Red Frankenstein.Frankentein (Red, black, and white)- This guitar featured another humbucking PAF pickup, a non-functional 5-way selector toggle and a matching non-functional single coil pickup in the neck position. This guitar had an original Floyd Rose vibrato system with a locking nut. This allowed Eddie to perform the most dramatic dive bombs and the guitar stayed in tune. Also having one single control knob. The body was different from time to time (he had many different), consisting of a Charvel So-Cal or a Fender Stratocaster body and a Stratocaster un-painted neck to allow fast playing.Kramer 5150 Pacer- This guitar had many similar features to the red Frankenstein; single humbucking pickup, Floyd rose vibrato, single volume knob. But this guitar featured red tape in the numbers "5150" after their album. This was his first guitar to feature a painted headstock and a Laquer coat over the entire body and headstock for a more glossy finish.Bumblebee Frankentein (Black and yellow)-Virtually identical to the 5150 Pacer. The finish is identical to the early Frankenstrat, except it features the colors Black and yellow instead of white and black. Non-painted headstock.EVH Wolfgang- Eddie's current guitar in studio and on tour. This guitar features two custom-wound humbucking EVH pickups and a Floyd rose vibrato with a Drop-D-tuna on the sixth peg of the whammy system. This guitar has a volume and a tone control knob, and has a painted headstock. His guitar has a new shape, similar to a Strat and a So-Cal (in that it has two cutaways) but it is much thicker and heavier. This guitar features new paint jobs; cream, black, red, sunburst, tobacco busrt. This guitar is said to be the guitar of Jesus himself.
