it is located in the front of the engine which is on the passenger side. The oil pump is driven by the crankshaft and the only thing that would destroy this spindel type pump is if a big chunk of metal got in and jammed it. If you are experiencng a tapping noise, make sure your ignition system s working to optimum levels. I have found these 3.8 v6 are very picky about that. I added analog gauges and found oil preasure to be okay. A P0303 code says, the system is failing and is not firing correctly on piston 3. This could be a faulty spark or spark plug wire. I also had this set on 5 because my injector wire was not well connected. And tapped badly.
