Sikhism is Based in Punjab which is Northern India.

Punjab may have been the birth place of Sikhism, but Sikhism has no need really to based in just one particular place. A lot of the Sikh Gurus acted as missionaries who traveled all over India. Guru Nanak Dev, the first teacher of Sikhism, went to other countries as well and influenced people. There was a 500 year old Sikhtemple in Iraq that will be rebuilt as it was struck by American bombs. It was built by people in Baghdad because they so respected Guru Nanak. A monument in Turkey has recently been found. An Ottoman ruler was highly impressed by him and erected this monument in his honour. Bhuddist people have also respected him by seeing him as a Lama.

One time, Guru Nanak Dev ji was preaching in a village full of rude people. They were very rude and inhospitable. He told them "Vusday raho" or "May you always dwell here." Then he went to another village and the people were kind. He told them "May you be uprooted." His disciple asked why he cursed the kind people and blessed the mean ones. Guru Nanak Dev ji said that it was better if people like the first ones stayed in one place together and better if people like the second ones went about everywhere influencing others. His vision for Sikhism was not just to confine it to the Punjab but to spread it everywhere in the world. However, Sikhs don't really do that. We don't believe in converting others and most Sikhs also share next to nothing even when people might want to know.
