It is a territory located on the West Bank of the Jordan River, and until the 'Green Line'. More can be read on Wikipedia's website about the Green Line, see below.

The West Bank is populated mainly with Arabs who after the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948 started to call themselves Palestinians in order to distinguish themselves from the Jewish population and indicate that they represent indigenous peoples of the British Mandate of Palestine.

The West Bank is a portion of the former territory of the British Mandate for Palestine. It composes most of the lands along the west bank of the Jordan River that are in the Samarian and Judean Highlands. It is formed of two lobes with an internal cut where the Israelis were able to control Jerusalem, which is in the Judean Highlands.

From 1949-1967, this area was a province of Jordan and included all areas within the Mandate of British Palestine along the Jordan River which Israel did not control prior to 1967. It represents roughly 18% of the total area of the British Mandate of Palestine, making it the largest Palestinian territorial acquisition by Israel in the Six-Day War. It is home to many Ancient Jewish and Christian sites/cities like Nablus (Shchem), Bethlehem, Hebron, and Jericho.
