In a 1996 Ford Explorer , 4.0 liter EFI , V6 engine :
From what I have read the camshaft position sensor is located on the top of
the engine , near the centerline , at the rear of the engine near the
firewall . Apparently you can't see it until the upper intake manifold is

The Eddie Bauer is one trim level above the XLT Explorer
Yes the timing chain position marks for engine 4.0 ford explorer eddie bauer
Not all Explorer engines had an EGR valve. If you have a 4.0, and it has an EGR, look on the driver's side of the engine, mounted to the upper intake manifold. It will be an aluminum colored metal or black plastic sensor, with one electrical connector and two hoses going to it. If you have a 5.0, it will be at the rear of the engine, mounted on the back of the throttle body.
