I´ve just changed the fuel pump from my 1996 maxima a few months ago, and it is located inside the fuel tank. You will have to remove the back seat, then remove the screws from the lid and there is a hose conected to the lid; have bucket or something to drain wath is left of gas in that hose otherwise it will spill all over,remove the lid, you will be able to see the gas pump. be sure not to do this with a full gas tank otherwise you will be wasting a lot of gas if you don´t have where to drain it.
