I am replacing a wheel bearing on my 1993 G20 Beauville, so had to answer this. Depends on whether you have a full floating or semi-floating axle setup. Most Chev 3/4 ton (G20) will have the semi-floating axle. You can identify this at the wheel because you will see only the 5 wheel nuts. This type has a C-clip at the end of the axle in the differential so you will need to remove the differential back cover, then remove the pinion lock screw and pinion gear shaft. Push the axle inwards(probably need a helper) and the C-clip will appear, ready to remove and release the axle. I think it is a little harder to locate the C-clips if you have a locking type differential but they are in there. Full floating is more heavy-duty and you will know it by the 8 bolts inside the ring of wheel nuts on a projecting hub at the center of the wheel. No C-clip for this axle type. I think you just need to take the 8 bolts off and free the hub flange to remove the axle.

The all wheel drive mountaineer is "Full-time" so there are no interior controls. If the exterior badge that says AWD is missing then you must look under the vehicle. Easiest is to look inboard of the from brakes and see if there is an axle shaft with a boot that that looks like a black rubber accordian. this is the cover for the CV axle joint and tells you that there is power to the front axle. That's all you need to know.

to change from 8 to 5 lugs on axle, you will need to buy a complete new diff housing and change it wheel to wheel. 5 lug wheels are smaller than 8 lug wheels and most 250 have a full floating axle.while the 5 lug axles are usually a semi floating axle you will also need to buy matching front diff and axle housing if you try just changing the axle hub and axles you will find the 5 lug axles are shorter in length .u will also find that the brakes on 5 lug are smaller so you will be loosing braking power typically u will need wheel to wheel housings, axles, and brakes from a f150
