It is possibly the injection pump. Happened to me. Contaminated fuel can cause it. The pump was replaced along with lift pump. Runs great now--Dodge has the best diesel engine. First, check the fuel pump relay--that happened to me, too. Under the hood, driver's side, plastic snap-off cover.

You will need to refill the tank the pump the fuel through the lines.
It does, but the filter is part of the pump module in the fuel tank on a 2005 Ram 1500.
If it has one it will be located directly above the fuel pump.

Try spraying some carb cleaner in the intake while someone cranks it over for you, if it continues to run, you have a fuel delivery problem. Possibly a fuel pump.
You must remove the fuel tank unless there is an access panel in the rear above the fuel pump.
