Onion is what goes bad in the potatoe salad because it attracks bacteria. If you use mayo that is home made then that can go bad but the commercial mayo has preservatives in it. If you put an onion out on the counter when someone is sick and let it there over night you will see how it attracks the bacteria.
No. Combination salad is a salad with the works, almost everything you can imagine that goes in a salad. On the other hand, ham salad is just ham and the main stuff that goes with ham.
Yes you can, it would not be a good idea though because mayo goes bad when it gets warm, and also it would not taste that good I would think.
