Three important rivers which flow through the northern plains of India are Indus, Ganges & Brahmaputra River.
The Indus Plains are characterized by a flat and extensive alluvial plain, formed by the sediment deposited by the Indus River and its tributaries. This region features a gentle slope from the north to the south, with elevation decreasing towards the Arabian Sea. The drainage system is primarily dominated by the Indus River, along with its major tributaries like the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej, which facilitate irrigation and agriculture. The plains are prone to seasonal flooding, particularly during monsoon rains, which can enhance soil fertility but also pose challenges for land management.
