It's not "banned" in the US thankfully, but you can still be discriminated against in many states because you're gay-lose your job, apt etc. However, it's just not legal to drag you from your slumber, tie you to a pick-up bumper, hang you, or burn you on a cross.....many in the US would like to do that, but the laws won't allow.
