According to Mormon scripture, the plates ascended into heaven after the translation by Joseph Smith.

However The Bible states in Revelation 22:18 that "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book." this tell us that the book of morman could not possibly be true and that John Smith made this up he also "found" the book of Abraham which contradicts not only the bible but the Book of Mormon the bible tells us that poligamy is wrong and the book of Mormon tells us its fine tomany contradictions and john couldn't keep track of all his lies ......also does any one find it funny that moroni the angel that "revealed"this to him is so close to moron.

Reply to the genius "scriptorian" that wrote the above: Deuteronomy 4:2 says "Ye shall not add to the word which I give you, and ye shall not take away." Does this mean everything after Deuteronomy 4:2 is null? Also, if you are going to use a scripture from the Bible keep in mind that the Bible is not a single book, but a collection of books not necessarily in chronological order. For example, the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) were actually written years after the crucifixion. The book of Revelation, although it is at the end of the Bible, was written before many of the Epistles. You need to do a little research before you start spouting false information. Also, it was Joseph not John Smith.

Where exactly does the Bible tell us polygamy is wrong? You obviously haven't read about Solomon's 700 wives and 300 concubines. Furthermore, what does that have to do with the golden plates anyway? The Bible contains many contradictions as well, but that doesn't mean it isn't the word of God. Just do a Google search for Bible contradictions.

Mormonism teaches that the angel Moroni took them to Heaven with him.

___

According to Joseph Smith's own record:

"... by the wisdom of God, they remained safe in my hands, until I had accomplished by them what was required at my hand. When, according to arrangements, the messenger called for them, I delivered them up to him; and he has them in his charge until this day, being the second day of May, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-eight."

This is recorded in his personal history and also in the Introduction of the Book of Mormon.

---- ------

Part of my understanding concerning this matter is that they have been taken mainly because they are sacred and will one day, stand as testimony to their literal existence and the truth of the translations thereof, but also, very importantly, only a proportion of those records was ever unsealed sufficiently for Joseph to translate: we are told that the remaining portion will yet come forth in the Lord's own due time, for His own purposes; there is more yet to come concerning the knowledge of this earth and the revelations of God.

After the gold plates were translated into the Book of Mormon, they were given back to the Angel Moroni, who originally lead Joseph to where they were buried.

Joseph Smith's statement (recorded in 1838, 8 years after the publishing of the Book of Mormon) is "by the wisdom of God, they remained safe in my hands, until I had accomplished by them what was required at my hand. When, according to arrangements, the messenger called for them, I delivered them up to him; and he has them in his charge until this day". This is found in "The Testimony of Joseph Smith" which is found at the beginning of the current LDS version of the Book of Mormon, just after the testimony of the three and eight witnesses that saw the plates. A link is provided below under "Related Links". It is found near the bottom of the page in the 3rd to last paragraph.

Joseph Smith, the man who translated the Book of Mormon from the plates, said this regarding where they are at now:

"...They remained safe in my hands, until I had accomplished by them what was required at my hand. When, according to arrangements, the messenger called for them, I delivered them up to him; and he has them in his charge until this day." (See page 3 of 'Testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith' located at the front of the Book of Mormon, after the witnesses and before the table of contents)

According to his own statement, Joseph Smith returned the plates to the angel messenger Moroni. What Moroni did with them we can only speculate.

How old are the Mormon plates?

I assume you are asking about the plates which were translated by Joseph Smith into the Book of Mormon? Those plates were a compilation of four groups of plates - the small and large plates of Nephi, the plates of Mormon, the plates of Ether, and the plates of Brass. The plates of Nephi were written between 580 BC and 321 AD. The plates of Mormon were written between 355 and 421 AD. The plates of Ether were written between 2200 and 300 BC. The plates of Brass were written before the time of the Book of Mormon and contained the writings of Moses, Isaiah, and other Old Testament prophets. Therefore they are from before 600 BC. As Joseph Smith returned the plates to the Angel Moroni following the translation, the actual plates are not in existence on the earth and therefore their ages cannot be determined by scientific means.

What two religions have scripture from Gold Tablets delivered by an angel?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believes that the Book of Mormon was written on golden colored (although not necessarily the metal gold) plates, delivered to the prophet Joseph Smith by the Angel Moroni. Joseph Smith then translated the plates by the power of God and published the writings as The Book of Mormon. Mormons use the Book of Mormon side-by-side with the Bible. Other religious groups which have broken off from the Mormon Church, such as the Community of Christ and the Apostolic United Brethren also use the Book of Mormon as scripture. Who did the founder of the Mormon church say he received ideas for the book of Mormon from and what were the ideas engraved on?

Joseph Smith, Jr., founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church), claimed to have been led by an angel to ancient metal plates buried in a hillside near his home. He then translated engravings from these plates, which were in an ancient language, into English through the power of God.A believing Mormon would not say that Joseph Smith "received ideas" for the Book of Mormon, because they believe that he translated the plates directly from the ancient tongue into English, rather than reading them and then using the ideas to write his own book.Click here if you'd like to read a more detailed article about the discovery of the plates and the translation of the Book of Mormon.

Why did Joseph Smith need help with the translation of the gold plates?

Joseph Smith translated the gold plates by the gift of God. He needed God to help him translate because he was translating from a lost language that no longer exists and because what he was translating is scripture - the word of God. Joseph Smith also had a scribe to assist him. The scribe did not help with the actual translation, he just wrote as Joseph Smith translated out loud, in order to save time. The scribes also served as valuable witnesses to the authenticity of the Book of Mormon and the existence of the gold plates.

Who is Mormon of the latter day saints?

Mormon is a nickname for Latter Day Saints. This is because of their belief in the Book of Mormon. Mormon is the name of the man who compiled and abridged the Book of Mormon. He lived in about the 4th century. He gathered the historical and religious texts of his people, and combined them onto one set of metal plates. These plates were translated by Joseph Smith in the late 1820's to become the Book of Mormon. See the related links below to learn more about him or to read the Book of Mormon online.
