Bank 1 is the passenger side of your engine
Sensor 1 - is in your exhaust pipe before the exhaust enters the catalytic converter ( upstream )

On a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer ( V6 and V8 engines ) Bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine Sensor 1 would be close to the engine BEFORE the exhaust enters the catalytic converter
Bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine in a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer Sensor 2 is after the catalytic converter ( downstream )

The DPFE sensor is located in the center of the vehicle near the firewall. It is easiest to see and replace if you remove the plastic cover on top of the engine.
Its located on your differential

There isn't one.
If the ((ABS)) Light is on then it's a good thing indicating that the Antilock brakes sensor is in good condition. I too have a 2002 mountaineer
