There's a thing called a Lambda probe, or Lambda sensor that's mounted to the catalytic converter. The engine control system needs that one to know if the engine is getting enough fuel or not, so it won't run w/o it. You need a new cat and a new lambda (at least) to get it running again.

Its the first one visiable on the manifold/downpipe from the engine before the catalytic converter. you just undo the multiplug and remove the sensor with a spanner turning the whole sensor anticlockwise, screw in the new sensor, tighten it up and reattach multiplug.
