Put a straight through connector in place of the purge valve. 4. It would be better to replace the purge valve. Your car won't pass emissions without it. It will throw a code on the check engine light. 5. It's not a very expensive part.

if you got a code saying this, then an easy way to check it is to pull out fuse number 58 which is next to battery in a fuse box, a 10 amp fuse, also above coil pack number 5 is the purge unit, disconnect the vacuum hoses and try and blow through the valve, it should be restricted, when you hook the valve to a power source, you should be able to blow through it

On a single overhead cam it is under the breather box same shape but the solenoid is by the throttle body

Its a problem with the evap system. You should disconnect the electrical connector and then apply and remove 12V power to the vent solenoid/valve. The difference between 12V applied and not applied should be the difference between not being able to blow through it and being able to. After testing at least 5 times, if it fails even once, replace the solenoid/valve. It is usually best to replace the canister as well as you might inadvertently break the canister while replacing the solenoid/valve. See related link for a video with more info.

How solenoid valve works?
A soleniod is a device that produces mechanical motion by electrical induction. They are a coil of wire with either a plunger which is drawn into the coil or a plate that is drawn to a metal core. Most small water valves (like for an icemaker) have a metal plunger which is attached to a valve seat. When off, a spring holds the plunger down closing the valve. When on, the coil draws the plunger up and water escapes from the now uncovered hole to the outlet. Larger valves (like sprinkler valves) contain a small valve described above as a trigger device. They contain a diaphragm that seals the main valve and is held shut by water pressure on the diaphragm. When the trigger valve is opened, it releases the pressure and a light spring pushes the valve open, letting the water through. When the trigger valve closes, the cavity on the non-valve side of the diaphragm refills with water, closing the valve.
