South Devon, Devon, Red Poll, Shorthorn, and Hereford are English breeds that are originally red in colour. As a matter of fact, Shorthorns often will do better on average-quality hay than continentals like Simmental or Limousin will, just like with Angus or Hereford cattle.
The Jersey cow belongs to the bovine species Bos taurus, which is a European-breed type of bovine descended from the European Aurochs and Celtic Shorthorns.
Mainly beef, however, more farms are beginning to use Shorthorns for dairy production.
Shorthorns, originally known as Durham cattle, first came to Australia in 1788 in Sydney Cove of Norther Australia. Further imports came in to the Government herd in 1803.
