Cooling fans are controlled by the computer based on input from temperature sensor. After the vehicle is shut down, if the temperature is still high, the computer will turn on the fans to cool the engine.
There are 2 and they are located on the intake manifold near the thermostat. The 1 with the single wire is for the gauge. The 2 wire is for the cooling fans and the computor. jd
There is no temperature control switch for the cooling fans. The PCM Power control module receives input from the temperature sensor on the water outlet housing. The PCM turns on the fans when the temperature reaches 210 degrees through the CCRM.
Check the temperature sensor
The engine temperature must reach 232-235 degrees in order for the cooling fans to come on. They will shut off at about 195-200 degrees. Also when the air conditioner is on the cooling fans automatically come on regardless of temperature.
replace the cooling temperature sensor
The cooling fans on a 2002 Grand Am GT might not be working because of a problem with a fuse. There is also a temperature sensor in the engine that tells the fans when to come on. This sensor may be bad.
