It (lever) is in the trunk, left side, under mouth of gas tank. I found it. Maybe inside the glove compartment? On the floor left side of drivers seat, its a lever.
Remove the rear light cell to expose the sending unit. All will be clear then.....AP
Push the button on the handle as you raise the handle. It will have to be pulled up firmly till you feel the cable release, then release the handle. Remember to keep the button down until the handle is all the way back down. You may have to do it again if someone has really pulled the cable up super tight!
The remote trunk release was optional. If it is there, you will find a yellow button inside the glove box.
i HAVE AN 88 JAG AND THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE TANK WAS TO TAKE THE FUEL LINE OFF FROM BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE BY REMOVING 2 CLIPS FROM THE FUEL HOSES COMING FROM THE TANK AND PULLING THE HOSE A LOOSE

i have an 88 trgal, and it should be under the floor in the trunk
If its like my 88 it has a small lever next to the drivers left foot, look you will find it. This pops the hood up enough for you to get your fingers under there. it opens on on the side closest to the driver. I have an 85 XJ6, the lever is located between the door and the dash. The lever is as far forward as you can reach with out hitting the firewall. You can actually reach it with the door closed if you have small hands. Hope this helps.
