If it is dated 1916 or 1917 it would be below "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the observe. If it's dated 1917-1947 it would be to the left of "HALF DOLLAR: on the reverse.
Keep in mind that not all walking liberty half-dollars have the D mintmark. If a small "D" is not in the above places it was made at either Philadelphia or San Francisco.

But if you are asked to buy a Standing Liberty half dollar you can be safe to assume that it is a Walking Liberty. Review the Standing Liberty quarter and see that the figure is in an obvious 'standing' stance whereas the Walking Liberty appears to have motion.
