San Francisco California. It was completed in l937. One of the major contractors was the Strauss Bascule Bridge company, but the Golden Gate is NOt a Bascule but is a suspension bridge. The Southern Pacific was believed to have contributed towards its construction, cash figures not available. They ran rapid transit trains on the so-called Key System on the rival San Francisco Bay Bridge. this was on the lower deck. The trains were electric ( of course) and somewhat oddly had the controls set up differently than regular subway cars ( cab on RH side- throttle on the left, brake on the right, they were set up differently.)
