Jesus was Himself the Gospel and 'the' preacher of the Gospel.

He wrote no work or literature but lived what He taught. Others wrote about it later, particularly as they knew the Apostles would eventually die, and also to provide an authoritative record of truth against various heresies which were springing up. The works of the Gospel writers, two of whom were themselves Apostles and two not, were themselves 'Gospels of Jesus' in that they faithfully taught what Jesus said and did. There also were others present who could verify the truth of what was said and eager opponents who could disprove it if wrong.

Why did the other disciples of Jesus not write their gospel accounts of what Jesus did in their presence?

A:Over time, many of the disciples of Jesus were attributed gospels describing events associated with Jesus, either written anonymously or pseudepigraphically. The gospels that we know about included: Gospel of JamesThe Gospel of JohnGospel of JudasThe Gospel of LukeThe Gospel of MarkThe Gospel of MatthewThe Gospel of PeterThe Gospel of PhilipThe Gospel of ThomasIt is well established that none of the disciples actually wrote an eyewitness account, but many of the disciples were honoured with gospels in their names, including Matthew and John and several others.

What is the sixth gospel?

AnswerApart from the four gospels that were finally accepted into the New Testament canon, there have been many gospels about Jesus. The Gospel of Thomas is often considered to be the 'fifth' gospel because there was strong early support for its inclusion. There are several other gospels from the second century that could have been included and could therefore be called the 'sixth' gospel, had Ireneus not insisted that there must be exactly four gospels.

How many disciples were used to write the Gospel stories of Jesus' life?

The two disciples Matthew and John wrote Gospels about Jesus' life. Many also believe that Peter was an important source for the Gospel of Mark.

Where is the Gospel of Jesus...We have many gospels but no gospel of Jesus. Why?

Answer #1:Luke 19:10 - for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.Jesus came into the world for a specific purpose; to reveal God's plan for the reconciliation of mankind and offer Himself as the atoning sacrifice. His mission would not have been served had He spent His time writing a book about Himself; others could (and did) do just that. Answer #2:The true gospel IS the gospel of Jesus Christ. As far as anyone knows, Jesus was not a writer. He was someone who spoke and demonstrated, but never wrote. And the "gospels" we have in the Bible are more accurately known as "gospel accounts" -- such as "The Gospel [of Jesus Christ] According To Matthew (or Mark, or Luke, or John)." So strictly speaking, there is not a Gospel of Matthew, or a Gospel of John -- it's just easier to say "Matthew's Gospel" or "John's Gospel." But really, it's the Gospel of Jesus that each one of those Apostles wrote about.

Where can the lost gospels be read?

A:The 'lost gospels' are those non-canonical gospels such as the Gospel According to the Hebrews, the Gospel of Peter, the Gospel of Philip, Gospel of Thomas, Infancy Gospel of Thomas and many others. It should be born in mind that these attributions are no more reliable than are the attributions of the canonical gospels to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. For scholars, the most important of the non-canonical gospels are the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Peter. A search of the internet will access English translation of some of these texts, and the are also available (with difficulty) in printed form.

What is the center of the four Gospels?

AnswerThere were many gospels written, but it was the insistence of Irenaeus that there should be four gospels, no more and no less, in the New Testament. The four that were chosen are:The Gospel According to Saint Matthew, also known as Matthew's Gospel, or just Matthew. The Gospel According to Saint Mark, also known as Mark's Gospel, or just Mark. The Gospel According to Saint Luke, also known as Luke's Gospel, or just Luke. The Gospel According to Saint John, also known as John's Gospel, or just John. Each of these gospels presented a variant of what was said to be the life and mission of Jesus Christ.

What kind of person was Jesus in the Gospel of John?

The Gospel of John portrayed Jesus as fully divine and pre-existing, in contrast to the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke), wherein he was the Son of God. however, the question asks the portrayal of Jesus as a person and thus as a human. In John's Gospel, many of Jesus' friends were the rich and powerful, and Jesus reserved his best miracles for his rich and powerful friends.Mark has Jesus wish to remain anonymous as far as possible, with Jesus even commanding those he helped to tell no one about him, and Matthew and Luke followed this theme to a lesser extent. However, John's Gospel says that Jesus was quite open about who he was. John moved the episode of the Cleansing of the Temple from the very end of the gospel, where it was the event that forced the priests to decide to get rid of Jesus, to the beginning of the gospel, where it served to ensure that everyone knew of Jesus from the beginning of his mission.Perhaps even more than in the other gospels, the Jesus of John's Gospel was a charismatic preacher.

How are Elijah and John the Baptist different?

John the Baptist baptised Jews for forgiveness of sins. He was never a follower of Jesus, although the Gospels say that he foresaw the coming of Jesus. John, son of Zebedee, was a disciple and apostle of Jesus in the gospels. Many believe that he was the author of the fourth gospel, which is consequently known as John's Gospel. The gospel authors are generally called the 'evangelists'. Others point out that the fourth gospel was written anonymously and was only attributed to John late in the second century, on the basis of speculation. They say that the name of the fourth evangelist remains unknown.

What is the Gospel of Thomas about?

AnswerThe Gospel of Thomas is considered to be a sayings gospel. It contains many sayings of Jesus that the Gospels of Matthew and Luke also include, but also sayings that apparently derive from a different tradition. Elaine Pagels (Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas) believes the author of the Gospel of John probably knew what this gospel taught, even if he did not know of the actual text. In the Gospel of Thomas, Jesus performs no physical miracles, discloses no fulfilment of prophecy, announces no apocalyptic kingdom that will disrupt the world order, and dies for no one's sins. Instead, he reveals wisdom and knowledge so that people may be enlightened. The sole reference to the cross occurs in saying 55, where the image of one bearing a cross seems to be used in a metaphorical sense. (Euan Cameron, The Secret Gospels of Jesus: The Definitive Collection of Mystical Gospels and Secret Books About Jesus of Nazareth). The Gospel of Thomas was never seriously considered for inclusion in the New Testament canon.

Is Luke a Doctor or a writer of a Gospel?

Luke was a physician (Doctor) who traveled with the Apostle Paul many times. He was well acquainted with the Gospel (the Good News about Jesus Christ and salvation). He was led by the Holy Spirit to write "The Gospel according to Luke". So to your question, Luke was a doctor and a writer of one of the gospels.
