I own a 1990 Miata, and since the Miata remained virtually unchanged from 1990-1997, it should be in the same place as mine. Open the hood, and toward the back left of the engine compartment there should be a plastic cover that will come up. Inside are the fuses.
The airbag fuse is an integral part of the airbag control module and is not a replaceable part in itself. The airbag control module must be replaced.
You can retract them manually. Check the fuse if they will not go down. you retract them manually by turning the knobs, found under plastic red rubbers by each headlamp, and it's prob the fuse or if the button is pushed in which is under the hazzard button....
There is at least a fuse box in the engine, look for the black, plastic rectangular box near the hinge of the hood/bonnet. There is also a fuse box inside the interior compartment, under the dash. It should be accessible if you remove the plastic door/panel to the left of the steering column, next to the hood release.
