Where is the alternator located on 1997 Nissan Maxima?

It is best reached from under the passenger side of the car. Start by lifting and safely supporting the passenger front side. Remove neg battery cable from battery. Remove the passenger side wheel and black plastic shields that covers the bottom corner of the engine. Alternator is located just above the ac compressor. Remove the accessory drive belt. Remove the 4 bolts that hold ac compressor in place. Do not disconnect any ac hoses. You can now have access to remove the bolts and wires to the alternator. You may have to remove the cooling fan/shroud assembly to have clearance to remove the alternator from vehicle.
