I believe it is in the exhaust manifold on the backside near firewall. to access it, block rear wheels set E-brake. remove the motor mounts on the front that mount on the header panel by the radiator, place it in neutral and you should be able to rotate the engine forward to get at it.

There are 2 oxygen sensors on a 2001 SS Monte Carlo.
catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 1)
The oxygen sensor bank 1 is located in the exhaust manifold. The oxygen sensor bank 2 on the 1996 BMW 328is is located in the head pipe.
P0420 is not a part. its a cat efficiency bank 1 code
The bank 1 sensor 2 on a 1996 Chevy Blazer is mounted in the exhaust. Sensor two is just behind the catalytic converter.
Code PO420 is catalyst effeciency low bank 1 sensor 1 which is referring to the oxygen sensors. Have a repair shop do the diagnostics on the system. Jumping to conclusions can become very expensive.
bank 1 means the side of the engine where cylinder 1 is, which should be the front, by the radiator. sensor 2 is the second one you come to if you follow the exhaust manifold from the engine to the back of the car. it will be after the catalytic convertor. it looks like a spark plug, with a small wire coming out and is plugged into the wiring harness. it will be threaded into the exhaust pipe.
Bank 1 is the side that cylinder 1 is on, sensor 1 is downstream and sensor 2 is upstream
Bank 2 is on the passenger side on a Chevy V6 or V8.
