You didn't say what engine, but usually bank one is on the driver's side with number one and other odd numbered cylinders. The sensor is on the manifold nearest the top. Note if you have a V engine with 2 manifolds, you should replace both-sensors. They are only about $30.00 each and the other will fail right behind it. The one after the catalytic converter only monitors efficiency and is a different type, not critical to engine operation. The pre-cat sensors adjust fuel mix constantly as you drive by detecting O2 in the exhaust.
