there is a square box on the left side of the motercycle. Just to the lower right of this box is a nut on a stud. Loosen this nut and the band that goes over the top of this box will loosen. remove the band, remove the top of the Chrome box, and remove the body of the box. And there is the battery.

all harleys require the seat to be removed to access the battery.
On newer Sportsters the module is located under the battery. You have to remove the battery then pull up on the rectangular cover of the module on the bottom of the battery tray.

Remove seat, un bolt the battery, pull up and remove. Put a new one in, bolt the two knots and replace the seat!
Next to your battery you will see a triangle shaped cover with 3 screws in it, remove that to access wiring, fuses, etc.
There is a Hose with a Clip attached to the Left Side of the Frame underneath the Primary Cover. Remove the Clip and Pull the Drain Plug in the Hose..

On the rear fender, undo the single screw. Then lift the seat, slide it back, and, finally, remove it. When you see the battery, undo the negative and positive terminal. Remove the battery from the box. Refit the battery doing the opposite of what you did when you removed the battery.
