Lets list the ideals in order.

  • Near a large supply of clean cooling water. (preferably fresh water to minimize corrosion by salt of pumps and pipes).
  • Close to an energy corridor. (Often can cost as much to transport power as to make it)
  • On a stable ground location (Earthquake free preferable) (These can be designed around but costly)
  • Near the end user centre. But sufficiently remote for security (safety) concerns.
  • Forty years in the electrical power construction industry.

What type of reaction is used to generate electricity in a nuclear power plant?

Nuclear fission, the splitting apart of the atom, is used to generate electricity in a nuclear power plant. Nuclear fusion, the joining together of two atoms to create electricity, has been tried, but, it only works for a few seconds at best, and it will not be a source of power until sometime in the distant future.

Which energy producing plants has the best enviromental record of power plant?

Just about all power plants have a negative effect on the environment however, if a nuclear power plant is run properly it has a chance of not polluting the environment almost at all.

Would it be safe to build a nuclear power plant in a city in order to supply the city with alternative power?

Most nuclear plants operate their whole lives entirely safely, but as we have seen in Japan recently, things can go wrong occasionally and its best not to have too many people living near the plant. Transmission lines from the plant at say 20 miles can easily bring the power to the city instaed.

What does a reactor do in a nuclear power plant?

The reactor in a nuclear power plant generates heat to flash water to steam, which spins turbines that generate electricity. This is not really any different, in terms of steam cycle1, than a fossil plant. Its just that the source of heat is nuclear fission of (usually) uranium-235 instead of the burning of coal, oil, or natural gas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1Well, its a little bit different because the nuclear steam supply cycle runs best on a slightly lower pressure and temperature than a fossil fuel plant steam cycle does. Other than that, the steam and generating parts of a nuclear plant are very comparable to a fossil plant.

Best type of power plant?

Nuclear power is the best by far because you take pellets that have a uranium orb in the middle then stabilizer rods come in stabilize them and then water is poured on them to generate steam that rises through a turbine and spins the turbine generating power

Is nuclear the best way to power electricity?

In my opinion the best way is hydro power, but there is not enough of it for all purposes

Why nuclear power is not the best way?

Bcoz production of nuclear energy form harmful radioactive elements.
