The best place to hang a ceiling fixture would depend on the room you are putting it in. For example in the dining room you would want to center it over your table. Living rooms and bedrooms usually will be in the center of the room.
You can supply the voltage to the swag from a wall box but the whole purpose of a swag fixture is to have it hang from the ceiling. You are going to have to find a way to support the fixture. If you can not get support from behind the ceiling then the support is going to have to be on the exposed surface side that you can see. You will probably have to span two ceiling joists and hang the fixture some where in between them to suit your purposes.
If you don't know how to install light fixture, I don't recommend that you do it by yourself. The installation theory is actually very simple - all you need to do is attach fixture on the ceiling (or any other place) and then connect the electrical wires (usually there are two of them). After that it's good to put the light cover over the fixture to improve the appearance.

To remove a crown moulding light cover from a fluorescent ceiling light fixture, follow these steps: Locate the clips or latches that hold the cover in place. These are usually located on the back or sides of the cover, and may be hidden by the crown moulding. Gently press the clips or latches to release them from the ceiling light fixture. Be careful not to break or damage the clips or latches. Carefully lift the cover away from the ceiling light fixture, being careful not to damage the cover or the light fixture. If the cover is difficult to remove or if it seems like it is stuck, try gently wiggling it back and forth or using a flat tool to gently pry it loose. Once the cover is removed, you should be able to access the light bulbs and other components of the light fixture. To replace the cover, simply reverse the steps, making sure that the clips or latches are securely fastened before turning the light back on. For Further Detail visit Here: homelyitems, com

Not a good practice. Depending on the weight of the fixture it may pull out of the ceiling sooner or later. Even if it seems strong, what if there were a leak and the Sheetrock became wet and the fixture fell on someone and hurt them. You need to install a fixture made for ceiling installation that is attached properly to something other than Sheetrock.

Stalagmites grow from the floor, stalagtites hang from the ceiling. I remember this by thinking stalagmites "might reach the ceiling" and stalactites are "tightly held"
