Where is the blower fan resistor pack in a Renault Clio 1 1998?

The Clio Mk 1 heater blower is situated in under the scuttle at the base of the windscreen.

Open and fix bonnet. Remove the 2-part plastic cover on the scuttle (5 screws) the LH side slides out, but the RH side requires both the windscreen wiper arms to be removed (single nut on each). All the washer pipework is clipped to the underside of the plastic, but there is sufficient slack to flip it and rest it on the engine block out of the way.

The blower motor has a plastic cowl over it and is held in place by 2 more screws, but in order to get it out you need to take out the wiper motor, and its associated pantagraph assembly. It's held in place by another 3 bolts (hex screws actually) and wiggles out with a little persuasion. Now you can get the plastic cowl off, and access the hex screws to get the blower motor out without difficulty.

Both the motors have multi-pin plugs with a locking lug on the side. It needs to be flexed OUTWARDS to release the plug from the socket. The resistor pack is - in effect - the cable socket, and unclips from the fan housing. pin B is the neutral. pin A is the full 12v. the resistor pack has two wire coil resistors, and a solid-state component which despite what you read on forums like this, is certainly NOT a transistor as it only has 2 wires: it's either a thermal fuse, or a diode. if you can pin the fault down to the resister pack (pop the motor out of its housing, unclip the red/black connector, connect directly to 12v source), then that solid-state component is probably the culprit.

Now if someone can tell me exactly what that component is - and what its value is - I can get on with mending my own!
