2003 Astro - Front blower resistor is located just behind the coolant overflow and windshield washer tanks.
1) Pry/lift tank hold-down button center latches upwards (they are the small round buttons at center of hold-down. Grabbing the buttons with pliers works just fine!). When the latches are raised, lift hold down buttons clear.
NOTE: The coolant and washer tank plastic becomes brittle with time -- be careful!
2) Carefully remove coolant overflow hose from radiator.
3) Carefully raise coolant and washer tank from mounting location, be aware of connected washer hoses and pump wires. Tie back out of the way.
4) The blower resistor is the rectangular black box with the plug and wires.
5) Disconnect blower wires from motor ( violet and black).
6) Remove two small bolts securing resistor unit to air housing.
7) Gently remove resistor unit. (It has mastic sealing it to air housing)
8) Disconnect control wiring plug from resistor unit.
CONGRATS --- you are now holding your blower motor resistor unit!
Check the following................ 1. Power and ground to the blower motor. 2. Blower resister. 3. Blower switch.

Remove the HVAC rear module auxiliary assembly.Disconnect the electrical connectors from the rear blower resister auxiliary.Remove the air outlet duct from the rear blower motor controller auxiliary.Remove the screws from the blower motor rear resister auxiliary.Remove the rear blower motor resister auxiliary.Replace the resister and install new thermal gasket.................
Blower motor NG. Blower motor resister NG. Blower motor fuse NG. Blower motor switch NG.
Replace the blower motor speed resister.
usually mounted on or next to blower motor
Under the hood, passenger side firewall, close to the heater blower motor.
Probably your blower motor speed resister is burned out.

It's close to the blower motor.
When you beat the blower motor, you are probably shaking the blower resister. The resister is what controls the blower speeds and is probably bad or loose.
