get another person to pull the handle, and thump the bonnet/hood at the front in the middle, but not hard enough to dent the metal. If the catch is just a bit stucky due to lack of use this should shake the bonnet open. Then lubricate the mechanism, and open it more than once a year!

Well, if you're talking an MK6 Fiesta (yr2003 onwards) then you pull the bonnet release which is on the passenger side, by the door in the footwell. You then have to pull the release that pops out from underneath the bonnet, and lift the bonnet up. To close it again you just need to give it a bit of height and let it drop, the catch should retract itself back in.
lift the bonnet, there is a rubber cap over the bulb mount. remove this. then feel in the tight space for the back of the bulb. gently twist and pull. then reverse the proceedure. it's a tight space but can be done.
