There is a switch behind the brake pedal. Fairly easy to replace, or a 10 minute job at a garage.
in the fuse box
One may want to enlist the help of a professional to change the front brake disc on a Citroen Xsara Picasso. It can be a tough job and dangerous if not done correctly.
Remove the fuse board cover at the right hand side of the steering wheel, the switch is located behind the mass of cables, a quarter turn to the left will allow the switch to be removed.
No braking lights is usually caused by the failure of the switch behind the brake pedal. It's a fairly easy job to replace, but check it isn't a simple fuse failure first
Hi If your car is diesel , change the airflow meter or the brake switch thanks
how do i change rear brake pads on 53 plate Picasso hdi
if is xsara picasso then: from inside move carpet on the left side, there you see two metal parts which need to be squeeze and all rear light come off. Then you take off plastic where are all bulbs in, brake, direction and reverse bulb

get under the dash push brake pedal down a small crude switch with small nipple on is what your looking for
sounds funny but check your brake lamp switch at the top of the brake pedal as the computer will reduce power to the low pressure fuel tank in the boot - this is activated by the brake pedal - so check correct operation of your brake lights & bulbs this will give first clue. other wise the usuals like fuel filter etc
Behind glove box accessed via passenger footwell.
