That is the Rear Brake Proportioning Valve (also referred to as a Rear brake pressure regulator). Depending on the suspension position, it changes how much pressure is sent to the rear brakes. Depending on the situation, it may increase pressure (usually during high rear load conditions) or decrease the pressure to prevent unpredictable handling.
It does not take freon. The 1995 GMC Vandura uses the new R134a.

Are both resivoirs supposed to have brake fluid in them? Because the container where you refill brake fluid is as full as it is supposed to be. So are you supposed to open the cap of empty resivoir and pour directly in? My brake light came on a couple weeks ago and i also have a spongy brake pedal. Thank you, Darin

I have a 1995 Vandura and power sofa fuse is under hood. There is a fuse block there too with iterior electronic gizmos on it.
you either have a vacuum leak or your brake booster might be going bad. That would cause you brake pedal to be stiff. As for it pulling when you brake and then braking fine after pumping it you might have a brake caliper sticking.
