It is located on the rightside of the intake manifold, infront the intake air tubing, sensor is in a vertical position, straight down in to the manifold.
replace the wiper motor
The critical piece of information is missing from the original question: which sensor of the dozens of sensors in the typical Taurus / Sable
The problem is probably in the speed sensor.

All the solenoids for the transmission are inside the valve body. The side pan ( drives side ) on the transmission is the valve body cover. There is a manual lever position sensor at the transmission. This is at the end of the shifter cable at the transmission.
