Remove the driver's side kick panel. You should see the metallic box thing that holds the 12-pin connector. Remove the front and side screws (2 screws). You can now take that box down, and voila!

The 87 firebird is rear-wheel drive. all firebirds from "67" to end of production in "02" are rear wheel drive
i changed the one in my 87 firebird formula and i had to cut the filler neck in half then connected it back with a peice of hose if you don't want to do that i think you have to drop the rear end
