It should be attached to the radiator.
If the 2001 7series bmw's are similar to the 1998 7series, it's located between the driver side headlamp and the power steering reservoir in the engine compartment. Of course it's cylinder shaped and you can't miss it.
The coolant is added by filling up the reservoir bottle. This model is not filled through a radiator cap.

The power steering fluid reservoir is located next to the oil filter on a 1999 BMW 540i. The reservoir will have ATF written on it.
The 1989 BMW 750 power steering reservoir is located on the back side of the engine. The power steering reservoir will be between the engine and the firewall.
You will find the power steering reservoir on a 2002 BMW 318i, under the BMW plastic cover over the radiator. It is a black and round, about the size of an orange.
If I were wanting to remove the coolant without draining the whole system which would do the trick, I would siphone the coolant out with a small hose like cleaning out an aquarium. Put the hose in the coolant reservoir and use a apparadius to start the sucking and eventual withdrawal of the liquid. Ken
its located on the side of radiator
