the crank sensor is on the front side of block by where the trans bellhousing is.pull the cooling fan out and you can get to it is a 2 wire sensor held in by a #27 torx bolt .if you see the cam sensor its right below it.- county line perf.
you don't the computer sets it from the crank sensor

To check the fan sensor on a 98 escort with the key on disconnect the electrical connector to the temperature sesnor. If the fan come on the sensor is all right.
