bottom of engine where belts go
right side of crankshaft pulley
Pulley above the crankshaft pulley (lowest on engine)
Looking at the bottom side of the front of the engine at the crankshaft pulley, the CKP is at the 10 O'Clock position of the crankshaft pulley
That should be at the front of the engine by the crankshaft pulley / harmonic balancer
THE CRANK SENSOR ON A 97 5.7 IS LOCATED UNDER THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BETWEEN THE PULLEY AND THE OILPAN. SLIGHTLY TO DRIVERS SIDE
The timing sensor is called a Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP). It is located at the 10 O'Clock positon on the crankshaft pulley.
The main pulley on which the serpentine belt goes on in a 1997 Chevy Lumina LTZ is the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft pulley plays a role in the wheels turning and powering the alternator and power steering pump.
There is a crankshaft pulley, alternator pulley, power steering pump pulley, AC pulley, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, etc.
The crankshaft position sensor is mounted on the front of the engine near the crankshaft pulley . Looking from the front it is to the left of the crankshaft pulley and is triggered by the teeth which are machined into the crankshaft damper (Chilton) You can see it from underneath the Explorer
if it has a v6 it's behind crankshaft pulley,if its a 4 cyl.in the block

It is bolted into the passenger side of the timing cover on the front of the engine. Look at the front of the engine and it will be behind the bottom pulley/ harmonic balancer.
