Engine numbers can sometimes be hard to find. On an Astra, look on the transmission side under the oil filter housing on the cylinder block. You may need to use a rag, cleaner, or even a wore brush to remove any "gunk" that has accumulated on the plate.
The EGR valve on a 2001 Astra 1.8 SRI is located on the intake manifold. It is at the rear of the engine.

what year is the astra, timing belts in my experience are usually found on the left hand side of the engine block. it conects the cylinder head to the bottom endof the engine via a system of pulleys.
