On the drivers side of the engine
The automatic transmission dipstick is just to the left of the engine ( when you are standing in front facing the engine ) near the firewall , the manual transmission doesn't have a dipstick
Starting with the 2002 Ford Explorer 4 door there is no automatic transmission dipstick
