The coolant fan switch on a 1998 Contour is located at the front of the engine, near the radiator. It controls the speed and operation of the cooling fan based on the actual engine temperature.
either the fan switch is faulty, or the fan itself is faulty. most likely to be the switch
in the radiator or the thermostat housing.
The cooling fan relay switch can be found on the inside front quarter panel. The relay switch will be on the drivers side quarter panel.
thermi housing losers
the fan switch is located on the thermostat housing, you can find the thermostat housing by following the lower radiator hose to the back og the block
it could be the blower switch
Before you begin to focus on the the fan itself, have you checked the fuse that controls the fan to see if it's burned out? It might also be that the fan switch is bad.
in the thermostat housing on the left side of the engine
three possibilities , fan thermostat switch is bad or cooling fan relay is bad, or radiator is low on coolant (possibly due to a leak - check reservoir & top up if needed).
