The fuel filter is mounted on the firewall next to the master brake cylinder. It is held in place with a spring clamp and can be pulled out by hand. Pliers will squeeze and move the fuel line clamps, the hoses can be gently pried away from the filter. If you have a Maxima GXE with the VG30E engine, the fuel filter is located on the firewall on the driver's side. It simply slides into a bracket, and the rubber fuel lines are just held on by 2 clamps. The filter is in the same place on a 1992 Maxima SE with the VE30DE engine as well, but it will be slightly harder to access.
