in the gas tank you will need to drop your tank to change it No need to drop tank in some cases as stated above, I have a 2004 Kia Optima EX, 2.7L automatic. There is an access cover behind the back seat in the trunk. Another individual I spoke with said his was located under his back seat. This all depends on engine, year, model. I also have a 2004 Optima EX w/ 2.7L and I have replaced the fuel pump to address a high rev hesitation problem. As stated above, there is a hatch in the trunk behind the rear seats - remove it and the top of the tank is exposed where the fuel lines go into the tank and down to the pump. I have yet to find the fuel filter for this car. It may be part of the fuel pump package inside the tank, but I am not sure. I bought a vehicle specific replacement fuel filter from Walmart and it resembled a large "in-line" fuel filter and was definitely was not part of the fuel pump package inside the tank. I have not found it under the hood so its got to be between the firewall and the tank somewhere.
