I have the 2004 and it's behind the back right tire if I remember correctly. you have to have the car lifted to get to it. It should b the same place on the 2005. good luck

The cabin air filter on a Mercury Mountaineer is located on the passenger side of the vehicle. The unit is behind the glove box and can be replaced by removing the glove box.

Its inside the gas tank. connected to the bottom of the fuel pump.
In the front of the engine compartment , on the passenger side , inside the engine air filter housing
go to any auto parts store wheir buy you filter just ask them and they tell you wheir it is at.
check on the frame on the driver side under the vehicle. the filter is located on the drivers side tucked under a frame rail under the drivers door
It has a vacuum leak somewhere.
