on most Chevy trucks the fuel filter is located on the inside of the frame rail on the drivers side. however, if i am not mistaken after 2003 Chevy put the filters INSIDE the fuel tank. short of dropping the tank or removing the bed these cannot be changed.

G.M. starting with the 2004's.....Moved the Fuel filter into the fuel tank as part of the fuel pump assembly,G.M. said it is a Non-serviceable part.
I do not have a Z71, but my 2004 GMC does not have a fuel filter, very strange because when i go to a parts store they have one listed.
