The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank. All tanks can physically hold 20 gallons. Jeeps are sold with 2 capacities- 15 & 20 galons. There is a longer vent hose in the 15 gallon that only allows 15 gallons to be put in. They charge extra as an option for the 20 gallon tank. By removing the vent hose & snipping it shorter, the tank can hold 20 gallons. But there are 2 different fule pumps & sender units. So if you do this, the 15 gallon sending unit will not accurately read the fuel level of the now 20 gallon tank. This is more info than you aksed for but also very usefull. I converted my tank to hold 20 gallons based on an article I found on one of the Jeep sites and have not regretted it, I do need to watch my milage closely so as not to run out of fuel. As for the filter, jack your Jeep up & use jack stands to be safe. Look just above the rear axle on the drivers side & you will see the filter just above a small skid plate. Follow the fuel lines if you cannot find it still. It is about 2-3 inches in diameter & about 7 inches long. Very easy to change & often overlooked in maintenance, but very important to change when the user manual says. Hope this helps Danimal
