Inside the fuel tank on the drivers side; you have to either drop the gas tank to get it out. The gas tank is held on by two bands which bolt into the rail and under body of the truck. Also, there is a mounting bracket which is on the rail held by 4 bolts which will need to be removed.

On a 1984 chev S-10 with a 2.8 engine the fuel pump IS NOT located in the fuel tank, that started in 1985, the mechanical fuel pump on a 2.8 L engine (1984 and down) is next to the oil sending unit.
