Where is the fuel pump located in a 1998 mercury tracer and how would you change it?

The fuel pump is in the gas tank. The really good thing about the 98 tracer is that you don't have to drop the tank to replace the pump. If you remove the back seat bottom cushion, you will see a access cover. If you remove the cover, the fuel pump is under it. Unplug the electrical harness from the top of the pump, then turn the round locking ring counter clock-wise. Then carefully pull the sending unit/fuelpump assembly out, that's it. Very easy.
