Standing in the front of the engine. Look at the fire wall on the left side and you will see a black long plastic cover that has 3 plastic nuts that hold it to the fire wall. Remove the cover and you will see the fuel pump relay. Read the cover and it will show you witch one it is.

No it will not work in a 1997 Chevy 1500. First the case doesn't have the bosses for the neutral safety switch which is on the drivers side of the case. Second the solenoids inside the transmission are different for 1997 and 1993. Third the wiring harness inside the transmission is different for 1993 and 1997.
